Poppy Pod Project: FREE Camping village for Armed Forces personnel and their families- Tile Barn Outdoor Centre-Brockenhurst

CLICK HERE  to find out what facilities they have and available activities

Hampshire County Council is proud to introduce The ‘Poppy Pod’ camping village for Armed Forces personnel and their families at Tile Barn Outdoor Centre in Brockenhurst, New Forest. The project is to become its lasting legacy to our Armed Service personnel to recognise and remember the sacrifices made and faced by the Armed Forces Community.

Twenty wooden pods have already been built as free holiday and respite facilities for service personnel, veterans and their families, thanks to £250,000 from the Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant scheme.  A further £50,000 donation from the Brockenhurst Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) will be used to build a communal hub building for visitors to meet, eat and share experiences with other families.

The 20 solar-powered, accessible pods and hub building will be available at a charge for schools, when bookings begin from spring 2016. However, priority will be given to members of the armed services and their families on weekends and during school holiday periods who can enjoy the facilities for free.

Tile Barn has been a camping and outdoor centre since the early 1970s and has recently benefitted from a new, fully accessible shower and toilet block, which will support use of the ‘Poppy Pod’ village. The centre was set up to provide cost effective outdoor residential experiences to school children in Hampshire. It can cater for up to 350 young people in fully equipped campsites and a 37 bed bunkhouse facility.

Tile Barn was originally used to treat First World War troops from the Indian Army Corps at tented and galvanised units, nicknamed 'Tin Town' by local people. The site then became the New Zealand General Hospital No.1 where 21,000 casualties were treated.

The pods have been fitted with a seating area which easily converts into a bed for families to have a versatile

Big White Wall

That moment when everything calms down to a standstill; when, even if it is just for moment, life seems to make sense and the smile that has appeared on your face had no second thought. Peace is a simple concept yet it can be the hardest to accomplish. September sees the United Nations’ International Day of Peace (Wednesday 21st) take place around the world. It is a time to reflect on what makes each of us peaceful, on how we can create a more peaceful society, and on what has been sacrificed to achieve peace in the past. It can serve as a reminder that we are all seeking a more peaceful life.

With Big White Wall’s trained counsellors (called Wall Guides) and peer support, there is always a peaceful place to go 24/7. All UK serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families aged 16+ can access free and anonymous online

Whether it is wellbeing or mental health issues, stress or just going through a tough time, Big White Wall is here to provide safe, anonymous support at any time, day or night.

Big White Wall is supported by Help for Heroes, the Ministry of Defence and
NHS England to support the UK Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.

          Mixed ages                  1730 – 1930hrs

Parents are to be advised that younger children attending the second party may be in contact with older boys and girls up to and including the age of 16 and some may find this a little overwhelming. Please consider carefully when applying for tickets.

Child Care Vouchers

You could be saving up to £933 in childcare costs – are you missing out?
Raising a family is demanding, and worrying about the cost of childcare is something that most parents could do without. As you work for the MOD, you could be saving money on your childcare costs by taking childcare vouchers.

What are childcare vouchers? Childcare vouchers are a government initiative, allowing working parents or guardians to save money on childcare costs until your child is 15.

How much can you save? Childcare vouchers are taken from your salary before your usual Tax and NI contributions are deducted so, each year, you could save £933 as a basic-rate earner, £623 as a higher-rate earner and £622 as an additional-rate earner. And if both parents claim, that can be over £1,800 a year – enough to pay for a great family holiday!

Where can you use them? Childcare vouchers can be used to pay for more than just nursery fees. You can use them to pay for childcare and kids activities up to 15 years old. This includes:
Certain elements of Independent school fees  Out-of-hours school clubs  Sport, music and drama lessons  Holiday clubs or schemes  Activity holidays  Exclusive discounts What’s more, with the Sodexo childcare voucher scheme you can now make your money go that extra mile with exclusive discounts* on:   Childcare – such as holiday camps, and Maths and English tuition   Family days out – Legoland, Alton Towers and Sealife Centre to name a few  Retailer discounts – at Toys R Us, John Lewis, Halfords and many more

     * Discounts are subject to change and availability Get them while you can In early 2017, the Government is planning to introduce Tax-Free Childcare, a new initiative for working parents which will replace the current Childcare Voucher Scheme. Many families will be better off with the current system – so signing up now puts you in a great position as it means that you can decide which scheme suits your family best.  How do I sign up? If you would like to find out more about our childcare voucher scheme, and how much you could save, please call 0800 066 5075 or visit www.MODchildcare.co.uk
