Little Troopers Summer Camp 2017 - last few tickets available



This year will be our sixth Summer Camp event for military families and we have the very last 15 tickets up for grabs, booking closes 26th May midday.

1st and 2nd July, Pirbright in Surrey over 300 of you are coming together for a weekend of camping and activities with your Little Troopers. We have Chelsea FC, Craft, Dance, Singing, Survival, Field Cookery, Swimming, Climbing Wall, Cinema, a Show and so much more!

Its just £13 per person and this includes activities and some meals! You MUST be a serving regular or reserve British Armed Forces family to attend.

Forces Help to Buy: help to get on the property ladder

What is the Forces Help to Buy Scheme?

Regular armed forces personnel can benefit from a £200 million scheme to help them get on the property ladder. The Forces Help to Buy scheme enables servicemen and servicewomen to borrow up to 50% of their salary, interest free, to buy their first home or move to another property on assignment or as their families needs change.

The pilot scheme, which launched in April 2014 and has now been extended to 2018, aims to address the low rate of home ownership in the armed forces.

Volunteering in Hampshire

Do you want to learn new skills,  get out and meet people and make new friends? Do you want to make a difference in your community?
Thousands of people of all ages volunteer in Hampshire and the choice of opportunities is endless. 

  1. You could be a driver, a shop assistant, a counsellor or befriender, working directly with people.
  2. You could help out behind the scenes or offer your IT, finance or admin skills to groups which desperately need this kind of expertise.
  3. You could be a trustee or school governor making board-level decisions or a fund-raiser persuading others to put their hands in their pockets.
  4. You could get out in the fresh air gardening, leading health walks, looking after animals or working on environmental projects.

CEAS are part of the MOD’s Directorate Children and Young People (DCYP) and are a small dedicated team, who are experienced in advising service parents on a wide range of issues regarding the education of service children in the UK and overseas.

CEAS provides a dedicated service exclusively for service and MOD families providing professional advice about all aspect of children’s education both in the UK and Overseas.
CEAS has 13 full time advisers to answer queries via telephone, email or in person. CEAS provides the best advice available, free of charge, to all service parents irrespective of rank or location.
All 4 devolved areas in the UK have their own arrangements for providing and choosing the curriculum, and monitoring their education services. An overview of education service provision in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland has been provided with useful contact numbers and links.
If you choose for your child to be educated outside of the state system your family may be entitled to help with Continuity of Education fees. Overseas education is dependent on the area you are posted to.

SE Education Fair & Festival of Learning in Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre- 19 July 2017

On 19 Jul 17 HQ 11 (Inf) Bde will host a SE Education Fair & Festival of Learning to promote a wide variety of education opportunities and courses to all of our Serving Personnel, Spouses, Partners and young family members.  The event will cover to themes:

1.     Education into Industry (E2I):

Arms & Service professional bodies will partner industry groups, civilian professional bodies and academic institutions to provide advice & guidance to help identify structured career paths mapped to civilian qualifications. Key aims are:

o   PROMOTE wider understanding of Industry skills requirements in light of future employment growth areas, skills gaps & key recognised qualifications.

o   PROMOTE In-Service & external professional development opportunities.  

o   ENCOUARGE networking to facilitate long-term planning and development of personal learning journeys (educational pathways).

E2I will be supported by 77 AEC LDOs & IEROs, CTP, OA, DWP to provide advice on access to funding, process etc…

2.     Festival of Learning:

Explore an exciting array of wider vocational learning opportunities to encourage our Armed Forces Community (spouses, partners, families) to embrace lifelong learning.  FE / HE and other Learning providers will promote regionally-run courses, Have-a-go taster days, apprenticeships, volunteering opportunities  etc.. all supported by DWP to identify government education funding schemes and potential onward employment.

Thorney Island- RACPD to run Level 2 Award Support Work in Schools- starting October 2017

The course will start the first week in October and finish the week before Easter.    The cost is £180 which has been subsidised by RACPD.

The course will only run term time and in school hours to support childcare.

Tooth Bus to visit Thorney Island- Free NHS Dental check up- Wednesday 24 May 2017

The NHS Tooth Bus is visiting Thorney Island on Wednesday 24 May 2017.  If you haven't got around to finding an NHS dentist, pop along and get information of local NHS dentists taking on patients and receive a free check up if you haven't seen an NHS dentist in the past 2 years.

Update: The bus will now be in the parking bay by the Premier Shop between 9 and 5 (closed from 12-1 for lunch) No need to book, just turn up. Contact the HIVE on 388308 if you need further details.

The Union Jack Club has been standing at Waterloo for over 100 years and received over 20 million guests through its doors. SPACES- Assisting Single Service Leavers to find accommodation after discharge.

 What is SPACES?

Single Persons Accommodation Centre for the Ex Services, SPACES, is a housing advice and placement service for veterans. 

SPACES targets the most vulnerable of Service leavers, regardless of rank, length of service, or reason for discharge. 
    • Helps to secure appropriate accommodation when you leave the Armed Forces to reduce the risk of homelessness or rough sleeping.
    • Help to find accommodation no matter where you are located across the UK.
    • We will provide support for up to 12 months prior to discharge if you don’t have identified accommodation. The SPACES team will maintain contact with you until suitable accommodation is secured.
    • We have established referral pathways into veterans accommodation across the country via a network of partner agencies. 
    • If you are married or a single parent, we will refer you to the Joint Service Housing Advice Office.
    • We will assist Foreign & Commonwealth Service personnel with housing needs.

Thorney Island- Garden Waste Disposal- Important Update

For the attention of all Thorney Island Residents/Users,

You may have noticed that the area that has historically been used to dump garden waste has now been fenced off. 

The dumping of garden waste is not permitted on any area of the island.  

There are two options available:

1. Order a green waste bin from Chichester District Council HERE ,or

2. Take your garden waste to one of the recycling centres linked below.

Forcesline offers 100% confidential, non-judgemental guidance on all personal and welfare issues including sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying, racism, drugs, depression, alcohol, debt, relationship counselling and suicide to the Army community from anywhere in the world. It is completely independent of the military chain of command. 

Any vulnerable soldier or family member phoning, writing or emailing the trained civilian support staff of Forcesline receives guidance as to what their options are. The soldier or family member must then make their own decision as to how to progress the issues raised.

Forcesline is a free service that is operated by the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help.

The line is available from Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays from 0900hrs to 1730hrs (UK time) and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
